Drawing inspiration from the seaside village of Scilla in Calabria, Italy, the coastal-driven eatery offers decadence across the board. Designed by Corbin and Ross See, the restaurant features rich color palettes and opulent interiors to match its unrivaled dining experience. From lobster arancini and hamachi crudo to the fan-favorite Paella di Mare, the menu is bellissimo. 8111 Douglas Ave.
New concept from Duro Hospitality (The Charles, Sister, Mister Charles, El Carlos Elegante, Norman’s Japanese Grill) is a neighborhood restaurant now open in the new 8111 Douglas office tower in Preston Center. The menu is coastal Italian: house-made pastas, raw seafood bar, and wood-grilled dishes like branzino, red snapper, Wagyu ribeye, and lamb kabobs. Highlights include seafood paella, lobster arancini, and gnoccho fritto, a puffy fried bread from the Emilia-Romagna region that’s a popular starter. The bar boasts an Italian-style aperitivo program, and true to Duro form, the interior is a knockout with hand-painted murals and artisan finishes inspired by old-world European craftsmanship.

Your first glance inside is a stunning pink bar, a great spot for a drink or dinner if you can’t get a seat. Which will be tough, as Scilla is a top spot in Dallas right now for fine food like caviar toast, tuna crudo and paella with clams, mussels and shrimp. In typical Duro Hospitality fashion, the award-winning Dallas group announced its latest restaurant, Scilla, just days before its opening. Not just releasing the moment its doors will open, but its entire concept and, most importantly to us, its name.
Duro did the same thing last summer when Norman’s debuted in Oak Lawn, which we were pleasantly surprised and delighted by in all aspects.
The owners of some of the city’s top Michelin-recommended restaurants like Mister Charles, El Carlos Elegante, and more favorite spots have opened a coastal Italian concept at 811 Douglas Avenue — a newly completed office tower in Preston Center District, and we got a first taste.
Chas Martin is a character. The shades, the cigars, the hot takes–it’s all giving Hunter S. Thompson meets Henry Hill from Goodfellas. But, make no mistake; behind the big personality is a keen restaurateur.
As a founding partner of Duro Hospitality, Martin, along with Benji Homsey, J Chastain, and Ross See, seems to have discovered the secret to enchanting Dallas diners. The company’s portfolio currently includes The Charles, El Carlos Elegante, Mister Charles, Sister, and Norman’s Japanese Grill, to name a few. And, whether or not you’re personally a fan of high design, hamachi crudo, and añejo priced like a full tank of gas, these spots have captivated our very challenging restaurant town (not to mention the Michelin Guide).
Scilla Coastal Italian will open its doors to the public on July 17 in a Preston Center office tower, spearheaded by Duro Hospitality, the group behind the acclaimed Mister Charles, Sister, Café Duro and The Charles.
“From the beginning, this project was driven by its location,” said Duro Hospitality Founding Partner Chas Martin in the press release. “The surrounding neighborhood, residential density and business community created an opportunity for something we felt was missing – a place where guests can enjoy a business lunch, meet for an afternoon aperitivo or settle in for dinner several times a week. We wanted to create a restaurant that feels like an escape while remaining deeply connected to the rhythm of everyday life.”
