In the Design District, 2024 and 2025 Michelin-starred El Carlos Elegante transports guests to a luxurious hacienda setting. Warm woods, imported stone and flickering candlelight set a striking, inviting ambiance. Executive chef-driven dishes highlight wood-fired meats, delicate crudos and refined agave cocktails. 1400 N. Riverfront Blvd.

From the Dallas-based group Duro Hospitality, think of El Carlos Elegante as The Charles’ Mexican cousin. The restaurant is nondescript outside, but inside is a vibrant and lively space, serving authentic Mexican and South American fare with an upscale polish. The best of El Carlos’ dishes center on anything made with house-made masa; the mushroom tetelas or chorizo molotes are brilliant examples. A visit to El Carlos Elegante borders on “special occasion” spending, but the brilliant dishes are worth the price of admission.

The team at El Carlos Elegante knows the power of a good collaboration. The Tio Rosso margarita is deeply Dallas-rooted, crafted around a special-edition of Socorro Joven Duro Edition tequila, a release from Dallas-founded Socorro Tequila. The joven expression is aged in Casa Madero Gran Reserva Syrah French oak barrels, adding a whisper of rich red-wine to the spirit. It’s combined with grapefruit soda and piney rosemary for a margarita that’s equally as thoughtful as it is Dallas. 1400 North Riverfront Blvd., Dallas, elcarloselegante.com

Incoming soccer fans will find dining options that are both diverse and innovative. The famed Michelin Guide recently added 25 Dallas restaurants to its list, featuring everything from barbecue to Vietnamese offerings. “The presence of Michelin has undoubtedly created a buzz around town, adding meaningful cachet to the Dallas dining scene,” says Chas Martin, a co-founder and partner at Duro Hospitality, which owns Michelin recommended restaurants El Carlos Elegante and Mister Charles.

This stylish, Michelin-recommended Mexican restaurant from the Duro Hospitality team offers a hip ambience, a deep agave spirits program, and distinctive menu options. The “Surf + Turf” on the appetizer menu is wagyu tartar and caviar, the vegetable side dishes include an okra and shishito recipe prepared with pistachio salsa macha and hoja santa, and the tamarind halibut comes with huitlacoche rice. 1400 N. El Carlos is keeping Dry January vibrant with the Limonada Stand, a refreshing zero-proof offering available in two bold flavors. Choose from Red Bell Pepper, which delivers a crisp, savory-sweet twist, or Jamaica-Hibiscus, offering a bright, floral tang with subtle tartness.

El Carlos Elegante is a Mexico City portal tucked away in the Design District. The Michelin-recommended hideaway looks unassuming on the outside, but step in and you’re met with a swoony lounge, flickering fireplace, dim lighting, rich textures, and Duro Hospitality’s trademark design. The menu bridges traditional Latin cooking with a rainbow of housemade sauces, indigenous masa, wood-fired proteins, and coastal catches. Opt for the Elegante Experience, a tasting menu that puts the restaurant’s greatest hits on your plate for less than $100. The surprise menu changes, but past dishes include salmon ceviche, Tijuana caesar salad, wagyu beef tartare and Kaluga caviar mini tacos, mushroom empanadas, and grilled branzino. 1400 North Riverfront Blvd., Dallas, elcarloselegante.com

This relative of Mister Charles (both a part of Duro Hospitality) serves authentic Mexican and South American fare in a polished setting. Come here for an elevated night out, perhaps dance a bit at Double D’s around the corner. It’s fun with a group, so you can try a variety of dishes because the hardest thing here is deciding what to get; or you could go for the $99 tasting menu they launched after being recommended in the 2024 and 2025 Michelin Guide.
